The Planets make aspects with one another all the time.
All these celestial/planetary bodies, which some might even refer to as divine gods, interact with one another throughout their journey circling the sun. As far as math goes, based on the position of planets on a chart, aspects are identified from the way they divide the circle (degree of the angle they form).
The positions of these planets in relation to one another, astrologers use geometry to assert “angles” and observe their impact on natal or transit charts, to come up with interpretations of how these “gods” are interacting with one another and how it might impact us.
A lot must be taken into account when you want to interpret the aspects of astrology.
However, we’ll break it into squares, trines, conjunctions, and oppositions. For now.
Squares - tension, growth, action, pressure, need to be attentive to potential collisions
Trines - easy flow of energies, not necessarily always good but always easy, talents, fast reaction, receptivity
Conjunction - working together, not good nor bad, planets amplify each other’s energy with versatile manifestations of combinations of meanings from their framework archetypes
Oppositions - need to balance the two, two sides are acting up at once and there are bound to be two sides of the same coin, planets need to be balanced out
So, first up, Squares:
It essentially creates a pressure point that will cause frustration and ignite you or something outside of you to take action. Not necessarily always harsh unless there’s a T square happening where 3 planets are squaring one another and the middle one is suffering. Usually more intense to deal with.
A Square is supposed to be attended to carefully, you might not want to ignore it because it might result in sudden changes or accidents, which are inevitable sometimes. However, there’s no doom. Just energy that needs to be channeled through more than just reflection, it needs a result or adjustment, most likely a push to action. What happens with tension? either frustration or creation.
example: Mars square Mercury
As a transit, this signifies there will be charged (Mars) communication (Mercury) that will clash (square) with motivation (Mars) or action (Mars) to communicate (Mercury) or learn something (Mercury).
As an aspect, natally, having a Mars square Mercury means there’s always aggressive communication or a very action-oriented way of thinking that sometimes prevents or causes frustration when unable to overcome challenges that you need to overcome through selfishness to “get yours”. It causes for there to be conflict or requires you to address your thoughts, or in a specific case, Mercury rules over siblings, there could be tension because of having a hard time receiving motivation or often receiving discouragement/hostility from interaction with siblings.
moving on, Trines:
Astrologers state Trines as something that unfolds smoothly or without effort or is in harmony. This can be negative as well, as there’s a huge open receptiveness between planets that it’s easier to access and therefore result in patterns
But, usually, Trines are easier to overcome or handle, as they tend to be positive unless there’s no cooperation of planets with other aspects or because of their nature or place in the chart.
Example: Pluto trine Saturn
as an aspect, it signifies deep motivation (Pluto) to have discipline in a way that might be transformative (Pluto) of viewing fear or overcoming fear (Saturn). At the same time, it could instinctively make you go back to fear as a defense mechanism/survival (Pluto) or have a power rush (Pluto) with being authoritative or overly serious (Saturn).
Natal chart wise, this person has a lot of issues with authority but knows how to hide well or deal with it secretly. This, at the same time, might mean they gain a lot of power (Pluto) through discipline and responsibility (Saturn). Easily overcoming fear with a sense of responsibility as well. Could imply feeling at ease with intense power dynamics with elders or authority figures, even abuse of power.
Next up, Conjunctions:
This is when planets are in the same space or within enough degrees (orbs) close to each other that it’s considered close enough. This just makes the energies run together or activate one another and it can be either cooperative or mischievous.
Example: Mercury Conjunct the Sun
Sun Mercury, in transit, might mean a bright new idea or communication or someone finally speaking on something, at the same time, it could imply revitalization or reprioritization of mindset or way of thinking and communicating, potentially feeling burnt out by siblings or rejuvenated from them
natal, Mercury - Sun makes someone of great speaking & articulation affinities with reaching people’s soul while talking or a great leader of discussions and such and at the same time makes them overly stating their opinions or basing them on ego or too many discussions of principles that become constant public statements.
finally, Oppositions:
With oppositions, there are two energies you’re going to need to balance out otherwise it will lead you to feel like you’re neglecting a part of yourself or compromising the other. It calls for integration.
Whenever you feel like you’re too pulled in one direction, just know that going to the opposite energy might help you out more than you’d like to admit.
Example: Venus opposite Saturn
This is an energy, as a transit, where you feel like love is being kept away from you because someone with more authority, or parent, or boss, or some kind of responsibility is getting in the way of enjoying love, affection, or a person that represents Venus in your life. It could also indicate needing to save money because of responsibilities or having money restrictions. It might teach you that money isn’t always the gateway to pleasure or the importance of being diligent with money.
At the same time, it means that you might have a greater chance of experiencing a blessing if you’re responsible or more mature or handle the fear of the blessing first, and then allow yourself to indulge.
Natally, it might mean you always feel at odds of experiencing your love languages because they’re someone asking you to take on responsibility in another area of your chart. It might mean that you’re going to have to be diligent and have discipline with money in order not to find yourself being controlled through financial means etc.
Concluding this short introduction to Aspects, here’s what you need to figure out synastry-wise:
If you have a lot of Squares with someone, there will be great sex or great sexual tension to work through. However, if not handled well, there will be constant clashing between the planets and houses ruled/inhibited by those planets.
If you have Oppositions with someone, you need to realize you’re coming from opposite points of view so you need to get in the other’s shoes or embody the different opposite energy when stagnation of some sort or neglect is unfolding.
If you have Trines with someone, just know that there’s potential to team up and have a high range of impact easily, and at the same time, there is a certain pattern you fall into with this person easily unless not addressed or paid attention to
If you have Conjunctions with someone, it means your planets are working together, and if that is for good or better, it depends on the context of the chart where it is happening and which planets, and of course, your intentions and attitude.

Thank you for another good post! When I try to figure out aspects, I have difficulty understanding how they're supposed to translate when actually applied, so the examples are super helpful.
